ON LOCATION: 27/10/19 - Foxholes

Autumn is well on the way now and we’re getting closer to the point when nature is dressing up in yellow. This time of the year I usually visit my “local” woods, Foxholes. The peak normally happens somewhere in the first two weeks of November so I didn’t expected full colours just yet. And it’s been raining a lot recently which can extend the length of this change. But I wanted to have a look how it was proceeding and because of the unusually wet weather I hoped for fungi too. It did not disappoint, there were a lot to be found.

Ferns have already been changing their colour but the leaves are still very green.

I had luck as a dry day was promised. Being no cloud on the sky the previous night the temperature dropped, there were only 2-3 degrees in Celsius. But the air was clean and everything was very wet. I like these conditions for macro photography. Contrast is much higher and colours are punchier. And it’s even better when you have a polariser filter with you which I stupidly forgot at home. Nevermind I still had a great time. I only took two manual lenses with me and the macro extension rings. At the end I didn’t use the rings, the required magnification was just enough by the Samyang 135/2 and the Voigtlander 40/1.2.

I came home with about 60 photos. I struggled a little a bit with the editing and sometimes I couldn’t find the photos taken the Voigtlander sharp enough. It was probably just user error of mine as I have just started to discover the IBIS capabilities of my Sony A7iii. At the end this dozen remained as keeper.
